TCM Organ Clock Tea Guide

中醫子午流注飲茶指南

The Best Tea to Drink Throughout the Day

The Traditional Chinese Medicine Organ Clock divides the day into twelve two-hour periods, each traditionally associated with a different organ system and the movement of qi, or vital energy. Inspired by this traditional framework, we selected one caffeine-free herbal tea and one premium loose-leaf tea for four key moments: 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, and 8 PM. Use this guide to create a more intentional tea ritual from morning to evening.

9 AM: Spleen Time Tea Choices

In the TCM Organ Clock, 9–11 AM is associated with the Spleen, traditionally connected with transforming food into energy. After breakfast, it is a natural time to build momentum and support a clear, focused morning. - Chrysanthemum Ginseng Tea Chrysanthemum Ginseng Tea is a caffeine-free choice for feeling refreshed and focused without stimulants. Traditionally associated with clear thinking and eye comfort, it is well suited to screen-heavy mornings or tasks requiring concentration. - Honey Black Tea For a stronger wake-up, Honey Black Tea provides a more noticeable caffeine lift. It can help ease morning sluggishness and brain fog, making it a fitting choice before work, meetings, or other focus-intensive tasks.

12 PM: Heart Time Tea Choices

In the TCM Organ Clock, 11 AM–1 PM is associated with the Heart, which is traditionally connected with circulation and the Shen, or mind and spirit. As the energy of the day reaches its peak, this is a time to stay present, uplifted, and engaged with the people and activities around you. - Dragonfruit Ginger Tea Dragonfruit Ginger Tea offers a caffeine-free way to feel balanced and refreshed during Heart Time. Warming ginger and cooling dragon fruit reflect this period’s connection with vitality, while its bright character makes it refreshing after lunch. - Yuzu Oolong Yuzu Oolong combines uplifting yuzu with the gentle energy of oolong tea. Its natural caffeine supports alertness and clarity, while fresh citrus notes provide a midday reset. Traditionally enjoyed with food, oolong also complements the digestive rhythm of lunchtime.

3 PM: Bladder Time Tea Choices

In the TCM Organ Clock, 3–5 PM is associated with the Bladder, traditionally connected with fluid balance and elimination. This makes 3 PM a natural reminder to rehydrate and refresh before finishing the day. - Apple Pineapple Tea Apple Pineapple Tea is a caffeine-free way to support hydration during Bladder Time. Its naturally fruity taste offers a flavorful alternative to juice or sugary drinks, making it easier to reach for another cup and increase your fluid intake. - Jasmine Green Tea Jasmine Green Tea offers a gentle caffeine lift while supporting an afternoon hydration break. Its soothing floral aroma and light, refreshing taste make it an enjoyable alternative to sugary drinks and an easy way to drink more throughout the day.

8 PM: Pericardium Time Tea Choices

The period from 7–9 PM is traditionally associated with the Pericardium and the transition from daytime activity to evening rest. At this time, tea can become a simple ritual for slowing down and reconnecting with yourself. - Hibiscus Rose Tea Hibiscus Rose Tea is a caffeine-free evening choice. Its floral aroma and gently tart taste create a soothing ritual that reflects Pericardium Time’s traditional connection with mood and circulation while helping you prepare for restful sleep. - White Peony White Peony is a gentler caffeinated option for those who still want to enjoy loose-leaf tea in the evening. Its light, fresh taste feels naturally soothing, while its delicate character encourages slow, mindful sipping.
